Chapter One
Chapter One
I’ll Never Let Go
It had been a routine Wednesday for them, Quatre and Crys Winner. Quatre was cooped up in his home office on a conference call with the board of directors, while Crys made sure daily chores were being done. Life seemed pretty dull with the children gone, Kristana happily married, the boys in college.
Until that one typical Wednesday afternoon…when Crys suddenly collapsed onto the marble floor of the grand hallway; before the ambulance came, Quatre saw his wife lying in a pool of her own blood.
With a heavy heart, Quatre entered his wife’s hospital room. By the colors around his angel of dawn, dark grays and blues, Quatre knew his wife had been told the horrible news.
“I’m sorry Quatre, but she’s sterile.”
Jessica had been the only doctor Quatre trusted to be around his wife. She asked how Crys ended up unconscious in the hospital, blood everywhere. Quatre himself didn’t know.
“The maids and Rashid said she just fell down…” Was all he could tell the woman.
Frowning at his answer, Jessica ordered more tests to be done on her patient and long time friend.
Not one test could explain the sudden sterilization of Crystilline Heiwa Yuy Winner.
She was kept in the hospital for a few days until Jessica allowed her to leave. All through those days Quatre never left his wife’s side. Sadness, anger, frustration radiated off his wife’s slender frame, but above all disappointment rang the loudest. She always said she wanted to give Quatre a large family like the one he grew up with…now that was impossible.
Taking her well manicured hand into his own large ones, he kissed the ring that told the world she belonged to him.
“I’m not disappointed…” His words made those expressive eyes of hers widened. He chuckled at her expression. “All these years and you still aren’t used to…well…”
His words caused a blush to skate across her cheeks, something he never got tired of. She always looked so cute with that blush on her face.
Jessica came in with Crys’ discharge papers. Handing them to Quatre she gave him some instructions as well as some pills.
Crys was to take one pill a day for discomfort and she was not allowed to leave her bed for a few days. Any more blackouts and she would be right back in the hospital. Quatre felt as though he was getting another one of Heero’s… ‘mess up and die’ speeches. Jessica basically said ‘if she comes back here I am NOT going to be happy’. A mad Jessica was just as worse as a mad brother-in-law.
Speaking of brother-in-laws, Heero met the Winner couple in the waiting room, looking quite mad.
Okay he wasn’t mad…he was pissed. Though he dramatically changed his mood when told what happened…or rather what is now wrong with his sister. Luckily he had calmed down over the years, thanks to his own wife and children.
Otherwise, Quatre’s marble floors would’ve been blown up by now.
They reached their home in about an hour’s time, the Winner manor bearing down on the both of them. All through the ride Crys was silent, her head down. She was still silent as Quatre led her inside. It would be only a matter of time before family and friends got wind of this….Quatre wanted to make sure Crys was well in bed before any of them started banging on his door.
Warning Rashid of the madness to come, he took his wife straight to their room. Not a word was spoken between them as he immediately dressed her in her favorite nightgown, gave her one of her pills, kissed the top of her head. The grip on Quatre’s arm was tight, smiling he placed his hand upon the hand that held him.
“I won’t be long, I promise.” He took her hand, kissed it. “Rest…” He watched as her eyes began to close. “When you wake up I’ll be by your side.” A hand through her hair which she grew out last year, the tresses like silk in his fingers, he bent down to her and whispered a phrase she knew all too well.
“I’ll never let go.”
A small smile formed on her sleepy face.
“Neither…will I.”
