Chapter Three

Chapter Three
Phone Calls

After a few weeks, life returned to normal in the Winner household. Both Jessica and Moira still were as stumped as ever as to the reason behind Crys’ sudden inability to bear children. Not even Selene, whom the girls had summoned when they believed it to be a cosmic event, could tell them anything of the strange occurrence. To Heero it was plain as day, Selene was either unsure of the events that had come to pass or she was faking her ignorance.

Either way you looked at it, it seemed there would be no answers…Not for a while anyway.

Quatre really didn’t care about answers; seeing the light return in his wife’s eyes was more than enough for him to get by. She was starting to become her old self again, sorting out chores for the maids, setting up food arrangements for an upcoming business luncheon Quatre was hosting, Crys was finally acting normal. Life had become bliss again.

It was a few days after the business luncheon when the boys were home for spring break and Kristana was excited about her baby to come. Glad for another baby in the family, the mother and daughter decided to go shopping for clothes while the boys stayed at home.

Trevor was with his father, helping out with the family business when he saw his father suddenly stop dead cold. The elder Winner’s pen suddenly stopped moving, his body becoming tense.

It took a few moments before the feeling traveled to Trevor. The office door burst open, revealing his brother who looked tense.

Something wasn’t right.

In the silence of the room, the phone began to ring. Cautiously, Quatre picked it up, signaled for his boys to be silent.

“Hello, Quatre Winner speaking.”

A long pause from the other line.

“You should not have married the Eastern Sun…Southern Sun.”

When their father’s expression became hard, the brothers knew something was up.

“And who should I have married then?” Calmly, Quatre spoke to the mysterious person on the other side. While speaking, he was writing down anything he could hear; The tone of the voice, the background behind it, anything to help discover who it was.

“If you do not kill her…we will…”

The phone went dead.

Placing the phone back in its place, Quatre frowned. His boys wanted to ask but the ringing phone made them silent once more.

Mechanically, Quatre answered the phone once more.

The voice hadn’t returned, instead a familiar one spoke.

“Master Quatre,” the tension from the head Winner drastically lifted. It was Rashid. Though there was something strange about his voice. He sounded a bit worried?

“What is it, Rashid?” Quatre asked with a chuckle. He had asked Rashid to go with his wife and daughter on their shopping  trip. The old maguant was probably filling him in on the plethora of baby clothes coming his way.

“Mistress Crystilline is in the hospital again, Master Quatre.”

Joking gone, the businessman rose from his desk.

“What happened? Is Kristana alright?” So help him if something happened to them…

“The young mistress is fine.” Rashid replied. “Mistress Crystilline is currently being checked by Mrs. Chang.” He heard the old man take a breath.

Catching it, Quatre gripped the phone tightly. “Rashid…what happened to my wife?”

Silence.

“A gunman tried to kill her.”

Blue eyes widened. His grip on the phone was sure to break it at any moment.

“The boys and I will be there in a few moments.” Slamming the phone down, he rushed out of his office, Trevor and Jonathan behind him.

As the three rushed to the hospital, the unknown caller’s voice rang in Quatre’s ear.

If you do not kill her…we will.
