Warrior’s Code
Warrior’s Code
A swordsman is nothing without his blade. It is not just an extension of the body, it is the other half of the wielder. The stronger the heart, the stronger the blade that it wields.
Master Chang’s words rang through her mind as she took another stab into the air. A pivot of her foot and she was flying in the air above her imaginary enemy’s head, a turn and a swing of the sword…Her enemy was without a head.
This was how Crystilline Heiwa Yuy spent her days after the war officially ended. Atop the roof of her and her brother’s apartment building practicing the moves that had become second nature to her under Master Chang’s tutelage. She imagined the head of the O’Cannon Foundation in front her, remembered all he did to her family…
Needless to say, in her mind, he was without a head.
Workout nearly complete, she swung her body around once more, slicing the air around her. Sheens of sweat fell to the concrete roof as she cut off another limb of her enemy.
So focused, so precise in her movements was she that she didn’t hear the roof entrance open, but she knew someone was there. Her sense of perception had been trained to its highest ability, after all…a gundam pilot needed to know if there was an enemy around.
The person hadn’t moved from their spot next to door, making Crys believe the person was friendly so she continued until her workout was finished. Placing her sword back into its hilt, she grabbed the towel handing on a nearby pipe.
“You can come over now, I’m down.” She said as she wiped the sweat off her face. If Heero caught her up here again he was going to start that annoying nagging.
“You’re a little weak on your left side.” Came the female voice Crys knew all too well. “Try keeping your muscles tight, It’ll help.”
Crys took a swig of water from the water bottle that sat haphazardly on another pipe.
“Master Chang always did say I was weak on my left. Told me I had to figure it out on my own.” She sighed as the cool liquid ran down her parched throat. “Let me guess, Heero huh?”
Jessica shook her head. “No one has any idea I’m up here…”
Crys paused, set her water down, hung her towel back in its place.
“Oh…well…” She shrugged. “I guess…that’s good for me!”
The knife came straight for Jessica’s head, quickly she dodged. Across the way, Crys held her sword at the read, her eyes in an intense glare towards the elder gundam pilot.
“Just because we stopped a war together doesn’t mean I’m going to forgive you for trying to kill my brother.”
Expecting this, Jessica drew her own sword out.
“I suppose your buddy buddy mood was just a dance to please everybody huh?”
Crys shrugged. “Had to keep appearances up…”
Silence then; the only sound between them was dust in the wind. A crow cawed…
The duel began.
Swords gleamed under a noon sun as the wielders fought one another. Both were quite skilled in the art of sword play, yet one was fighting with a clear mind, while the other’s was filled with rage.
The match lasted for well over an hour until Jessica decided enough was enough. Using all her strength and all her skill she forced Crys into a corner, their swords crossed. A flick of the wrist and Crys’ sword went sailing into the sky, clattering to the roof.
“Wufei was right, you do have a hot head.” Laying down her own sword, Crys sighed.
“It’s really not my fault actually…” The Yuy female wet to grab her sword, checked it for damages. “Half of it comes from Heero.” She smirked. “Some temper huh? You should’ve seen my father’s temper…Believe it or not he was scary when he was mad.”
Jessica watched the girl’s every movements, there was no telling if she was going to strike back again. Still through, this was the reason she went up here in the first place. Hearing from Heero how he was concerned about his sister made Jessica want to investigate. The Yuy twins were quite strange creatures in her eyes. The world saw them as a peaceful family, yet that was only a layer of it, the part that was seen.
“David told me about my brother a long time ago you know.” Crys took a seat, leaned against some brick. “Said we had this thing, you know…that weird connection that most twins have?”
Jessica nodded. She knew what the girl was talking about all too clearly.
“My connection with my brother was severed while on the island.” A shrug of shoulders. “I have no idea how that works but our connection didn’t open until I left the island.” She chuckled. “I guess when he first let loose his anger did I start becoming…well a bitch I guess.”
“Have you found a way to…suppress this?” Jessica asked.
“If I did…then we really would see some anger.” Blue eyes trained themselves to the skies. Puffy white clouds glided by. “Heero has a lot of anger in him…I mean a whole lot of it. I figured if I take some of it from him he won’t go doing something stupid.” She rolled her eyes. “You know as well as I do he’ll do something stupid.”
Again an agreement between. Jessica wouldn’t dare say it aloud but Heero Yuy was not what one expected a pacifist to be.
Wrapping her towel around her neck, Crys Yuy picked up her water bottle and sheathed sword. On her way to the door to the inside, she crossed paths with Jessica.
“Oh yeah…tell that sister of yours if she plans on hurting my brother…” A chuckle. “Well you get the idea.” She headed for the door, held up her sword above her head. “And thanks for the advice! I’ll try it sometime.”
Jessica watched the girl disappear through the door leading inside the apartment building. Their little sparring match was a sort of agreement between them. She really couldn’t blame the Yuys for all that pent up anger inside them, they were taking everything quite better than Jessica herself thought they would. Crossing her arms, she smirked and headed inside.
It was indeed true, the Yuy family certainly wasn’t what anyone expected.
